Who doesn’t want to save more money on their monthly expenses?  Cable bills, satellite radio bills, cell phone bills, electric bills, mortgage or rent bills, car payments, insurance bills, credit card bills, and even waste management bills can all add up!  Here are a few tips to lower your monthly expenses.

  1. Save money on your utility bill by installing a programmable thermostat. There’s no need to run the heat and air all day and night – especially if no one is home most of the day. Set it to turn on a half-hour before anyone comes home. You can also program it to change to different temperatures at different times to adjust for changing temperatures outside.
  2. Whether your carrier is Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, or AT&T, take a look at your cell phone bill. If you’re on a family plan, think about your needs as a family and get rid of the phones that aren’t necessary. Even with a family plan, canceling just one line can make a significant impact on your bill.
  3. Tis the season for major credit card debt! Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express thrive this time of year. If you have multiple cards, stop using them all except for one – the one with the lowest interest rates and best terms. Transfer debt from the higher interest cards to the one you intend to keep to greatly reduce your monthly debt.
  4. Reduce or eliminate organized child activities. You might be saying “Woah, I can’t do that, Sally loves soccer,” but you might be surprised. Sit down and talk to the kids about what activities they are sincerely interested in and focus on those while cutting back on the rest.
